8 Things You Can Do in The Sims 4 Get to Work

It’s Time to Get to Work!

Hooray! Our first expansion pack for The Sims 4 is now available in North America, and will be rolling out to the rest of the world in the coming days! In The Sims 4 Get to Work*, you can take control of your Sims’ every action while they’re on the job and determine whether they spend their days saving lives as a daring doctor, solving crimes as a fearless detective, crafting inventions as an eccentric scientist, or becoming a simoleonaire by creating their own retail business.
But that’s not all you can do! We’ve gathered together a list of eight things that make the expansion pack stand out. Here are just a few of the amazing things you can do in The Sims 4 Get to Work.

Play good cop/bad cop. Cracking the hard cases and finding the right clues can help your Sims become the Chief of Police someday. In the Detective career, your Sims can dissect a crime scene, dust for fingerprints, take clues to the crime lab, nab the suspected criminal, and take them back to the Police Station for questioning.  How your Sim interrogates the perp is up to you – good cop or bad cop, the choice is yours.
Create breakthrough inventions. No one knows when inspiration will strike. Your Scientist Sim could be gardening when BAM! They have an idea for a new invention like the SimRay. Thanks to this breakthrough, your Sim has the ability to control the minds of other Sims in an instant, freeze surrounding Sims in ice, or to transform objects into almost anything they can envision!
Make the whole town fall asleep instantly. Despite what comic books have taught you, science isn’t all about ray guns. Your budding Sim Scientist can tinker away with the Invention Constructor to create other amazing inventions, including a Satellite Dish. This creation detects aliens, decreases your Sims’ chances of being abducted and gives your Sim the ability to launch a signal into space. And as particles rain down from the sky, all the Sims in sight instantly fall asleep. Science is awesome, isn’t it?

Deliver new life. Your Sim can step into the career of a Doctor and work to hone their skills, making house calls and performing emergency surgery. You can even get a front row seat as your Sim brings baby Sims to their loving parents.
Create the business of your Sims’ dreams. Watch the simoleons roll in as you build up and customize every facet of your Sims’ business. From a bakery to a clothing boutique or an art gallery, your Sims can determine what items to sell, manage their employees as they see fit, and schmooze customers to close the ever important sale.
Explore new areas. Whether your Sim is saving lives at the Hospital, booking criminals at the Police Station, creating outstanding inventions at the Science Lab, or chatting up customers at their own business, you’ll find a number of new places to explore. You can head to the new shopping neighborhood, Magnolia Promenade, and visit (or open) a store, or you could take a trip that’s quite literally out of this world.
Take amazing pictures. Your Sims can do more than work in this expansion pack. They can try their hand at a new kind of art with the Photography skill, taking pictures and hanging them on the wall to impress their visitors. There are filters and selfies, too, letting your Sims really express themselves.
Learn to bake. Photography isn’t the only new skill available – your Sims are also able to create new, delicious treats with the Baking skill, making wonderful cakes and pastries. Once they’ve created the sweets (or savories) of their dreams, they can choose from a variety of decoration options to finish them off. Of course, you’re able to use both of these skills in the business world if you want to – there’s nothing stopping you from creating your own bakery or photo studio.
So, ready to rule the workplace? We’re really excited about this expansion, and can’t wait to see the amazing creations you’re going to make, and the wonderful stories you’re going to tell.

Basements, Bunny Eggs, and Painting Upgrades Added in Free Update

Its Here!!!!!

Paint A Picture of Decorative Eggs in Your Basement!

We rolled out a free Update to all The Sims 4 players this week. If you’ve loaded up the game recently there’s a good chance you’ve already downloaded the Update. If not, you’re in for a surprise – it’s packed with some great new content, totally free to our players.
Besides general tweaks and fixes which you can read about in the patch notes, this patch adds four updates into the core game: Basements, an upgrade to the easel, two new hairstyles (unlocked thanks to the hard work of the community during WooHoo weekend), and a Bunny Egg Hunt that’ll run through the month of April.
Let’s start with the biggie: Basements and a fourth top-floor. These aren't just any basements: they’re The Sims 4 basements. You can dig two levels down, and customize them using all of the creative tools available in Build Mode to create absolutely incredible lots. And while we were at it, we added another floor above ground – now, buildings in The Sims 4 can be six floors in total, up from three.
f you’re looking for something new to decorate those basements with, there’s something in this Update that’ll do the trick. Easel updates were rolled out in this new patch, and they let your Sims paint portraits of what they can see in the world. Want to portrait of your Sim’s loved one on the wall? Do it! Want to paint a picture of your house to put in your house? A little weird, but we’re not going to get in your way.
We’re also starting a time-limited challenge that’ll run through the month of April. We’re calling it the Bunny Egg Hunt! This month, your Sims might find some interesting decorative eggs scattered around the world. There are ten different designs in all, and they’re part of a new collection that’s only available for the next few weeks. If you collect them all, you’ll unlock a giant stuffed bunny!

Get Ready for Basements in The Sims 4

a quick look at basements in The Sims 4, part of a free update releasing on March 26. When we started working on basements we wanted to make sure they were special. These aren’t just any basements, these are The Sims 4basements. That means maintaining the flexibility of game’s building systems. We wanted basements to really take advantage of the tools you already know how to use, and to allow the same level of creativity we’ve seen since launch

Using the new basement tool, you’re able to draw a basement from the floor above easily. Once it’s there, you can begin building with all of the normal build tools, making just about anything you can think of. We’ve had a lot of fun in the past few weeks building different things using the new basements and The Sims 4’s creative tools.
What makes them so great? Well…
You can build them two levels deep. If you’re not content with simply one level of underground housing, we have you covered. You’re able to build a second level underground as well. This, mixed with the addition of one more floor above ground that’s being added with this free update, brings the new total house size to six floors – double what it was before!
You can delete their ceilings. After you build a basement (or two) you can select the basement block, navigate to ground level, click the yellow highlighted area, and completely remove the ceiling. We’ve had a ton of fun creating everything from underground bunkers to open-air houses that look like giant holes in the ground.
You can put pools in the basements. Who hasn’t wanted to drop into their personal basement pool for a midnight swim? But basements can be even cooler than that. Besides being able to create pools in basements, you’re also able to build pools adjacent to basements. That means a pool can be right up against the side of a basement, and if you make the pool’s walls out of glass, you’re basically making a giant human fish tank.

You can make your Retail Business even weirder. So, you’ve built a fun bakery in The Sims 4 Get to Work* using the new retail system. Awesome! Good work! But what if you wanted to expand your business? You could always build a shop in your basement, too, selling anything from toilets to… alternative clothing.
Excited? You won’t have to wait long to build your own basements. They’re available in a patch rolling out, for free, to all users on March 26 in anticipation for next week’s launch of The Sims 4 Get to Work.

Solving Crimes, Sims-Style

Cracking the case in The Sims 4 Get to Work* Expansion Pack

This week, they take a look at the Detective career. Check out their latest video:  The Sims 4 Get to Work: Official Detective Gameplay Trailer.
And now, time to jump into the world of Tate Rackett, a young detective trying to make a name for himself with the goal of becoming the Chief of Police someday.

The day begins with a 4:00 a.m. wake up call. It’s a cold morning, pitch dark outside. Detective Rackett grabs his badge and cup of coffee – black – and heads to the crime scene for his case: a popular club which suffered some suspicious fire damage the night before. He arrives at the location and starts to survey the area. This isn't the first case of its kind in the last week. Rackett is waiting for the criminal to slip up and leave the defining clue that will help him solve the case. Perhaps today will be the day.
Finding the Sim behind this series of crimes is not just another case for Rackett, it’s personal. 15 long Sim days ago, Rackett lost his friend is a tragic fire – somehow he had been trapped in a doorless room and just couldn’t be saved.
Rackett takes a closer look around the crime scene and discovers some items that he dusts for fingerprints. He takes a few evidence samples and is about to head to the station when he feels a tap on his shoulder. He turns to find an attractive, blond Sim in athletic attire – his first witness.
She was out for an early jog that day, just before her early start at the hospital. Rackett gathers all the details and races to the station, and his fully equipped crime lab. He runs all the evidence through the Chemical Analyzer. He’s hoping to find any missing detail about his suspect.
It appears the suspect is male, adult and athletic, corroborating the eye witness’s story. Rackett pulls out his phone and issues an APB.
Rackett finally receives the message that could end this mystery. They’ve found someone matching the description in the local park.
Realizing there are dozens of Sims in the area, he starts questioning them one by one, hoping someone can point out the suspect he’s looking for. He has to be sure. Last week he arrested the wrong Sim, and was pretty embarrassed by the whole situation.
Just then, he sees out of the corner of his eye, a Sim doing push-ups. It’s the prime suspect and it’s time to make the arrest.

Back at headquarters, Rackett ushers the suspect to the booking station to search him, take mug shots and finger print him. It’s been a long time coming, but Rackett wants to make him squirm. He locks him up in a cell and leaves him. He heads upstairs to pump some iron, eat a snack and kick back for a bit. When enough time had passed, he enters the cell and brings the apprehended suspect to the interrogation table. He uses all of the tools at his disposal – he starts as the “Good Cop,” eventually turns into the “Bad Cop,” and ends by showing the suspect all the evidence against him.
It works. The suspect confesses. Another case closed.
It’s been a long day and Rackett returns to his apartment to relax on the couch and enjoy sipping on his favorite libation, a Dim and Gusty. Another successful day as a detective in The Sims 4 Get to Work.

This April, your Sims will rule the workplace in The Sims 4 Get to Work Expansion Pack. Your Sim, M.D.

Saving lives has never been this much fun!

This April, your Sims will rule the workplace in The Sims 4 Get to Work Expansion Pack. You will control your Sims’ every action as they tackle three active careers, whether it’s saving lives as a daring doctor, solving crimes as a fearless detective, or devising inventions as a mad scientist. You will also be able to put your Sims’ entrepreneurial ambitions to the test as you create and customize unique retail businesses. Plus, there are new venues, more skills to learn, and the chance to befriend some aliens!

Today, their going to walk you through a day in the life of a Doctor at the new Hospital venue. You can also check out a doctor Sim in action in our latest video: The Sims 4 Get to Work: Official Doctor Gameplay Trailer.
It’s 9:00AM. Doctor Padma Arani, General Surgeon, takes a few steps towards the Hospital kitchen to begin her day.
Dr. Arani’s first patient is ready for her. A young adult male, slightly overweight, complaining of feeling under the weather. It’s good to begin the day with an easy case. Dr. Arani sends him to the X-Ray machine first, purely as a matter of standard procedure. She then has him sit on the examination table to check his eyes, then ears, and take his temperature. Dr. Arani is about to collect more data for her diagnosis by putting her patient on the treadmill when a pregnant woman bursts through the Hospital doors.
She’s in labor! Dr. Arani is on call and she quickly ushers the woman to the Surgery Table to deliver the baby, the first time she has ever done this. It’s terrifying, but the baby emerges happy, healthy, and safe. Both baby and mother are doing just fine.
Phew!
Oh no! Dr. Arani forgot about her first patient! She gets him on the treadmill for a diagnosis. She drives him until he’s exhausted, a little slimmer, but ready for a diagnosis. It turns out he has a relatively minor case of Gas and Giggles, which can be cured without too much effort.

It’s afternoon now. A few more cups of coffee and a quick bite in the kitchen revitalize Dr. Arani. She has an important operation to perform on the new Surgery Table. The surgery is long and intense, and a little messy, but this is her specialty – she’s known for removing all kinds of squishy, essential organs better than anyone else in the Hospital!
The day ends, thankfully without a house call. As a high level surgeon, Dr. Arani occasionally must leave the Hospital to care for Sims in the neighborhood. Normally this is fine, but she’s so exhausted by the day’s activities, she’s grateful to just head straight home.
This is just one day in a Doctor’s life. Sims in this active career will need to balance the needs of multiple patients, their own Motives (a happy doctor is a good doctor), and the everyday demands of a busy Hospital. They’ll also diagnose patients and use a variety of medical devices. It’s everything you’d expect from a medical drama. Your medical drama!
We hope you have enjoyed this peek at the Doctor career. Next week, we will be revealing more about life as a Detective. Stay tuned!

Introducing Genealogy

Can you believe it? This week marks the 15 year anniversary of The Sims™. This is a massive milestone, not just for us in the studio but for all of our players, many of whom have shared this journey from that very first day. We will be celebrating throughout the month of February, but what better way to kick off than by talking about a much-requested feature that we are bringing to The Sims 4 today.
Genealogy is essential for legacy and family players to fully appreciate the scope of their games. For all those players who lovingly document every generation of their Sims, print out their family trees, and keep tracking of the complex relationships that develop, Genealogy is an incredibly valuable tool.
Let’s take a look at a Sim family you might see in the game.
Now, with this feature, you’ll be able to look at your Sim’s family history, including brothers and sisters, mothers, fathers, grandparents (and some greats, and great greats, etc.), step relationships (like Step-Parent), half relationships (like Half-Sibling), and of course, Spouses.
After you download the most recent The Sims 4 update, you can find this in Live Mode by opening the Simology Panel (or hit the Y key).
Then, click Show House’s Genealogy.
Boom! There’s the whole family. You can now view and track the vast relationships you’ve accumulated in your Sims’ lifetimes. Who is related to whom? Which child came from which grandfather? It’s all there for you.
Let us think of a traditional story, that demonstrates the value of Genealogy.
In the beginning, Malcom meets Beatrice. They wed and soon have three strapping sons: Pablo, Paulo, and Steve.
Pablo fell in love with a lad named Steve, who was often confused with the brother Steve. They adopted three children, one of whom is also called Steve. That’s three Steve’s in one family. Now, using Genealogy, you can easily know which Steve you are referring to.
Paulo became entranced with Lettucia, whose family name was Crisp. Lettucia had a fine daughter from a previous tryst, Tomata. Though he was fatherly to her, Genealogy helps us know that Paulo is her Step-Father.
Finally, Steve (yes, the original Steve) met Jane. They fell in love in the deepest way and were inseparable. They married and soon had a lovely daughter, Jean. Jean was beautiful, with curls of red. Unfortunately, tragedy befell the household and Jane died too soon. After years of grieving, Steve met Janie. The irony was not lost at all by anyone. Janie and Steve had a daughter Joan to properly confuse everyone.Genealogy shows Joan is in fact Jean’s half-sister.
So, there you have it. A quick introduction to Genealogy. We look forward to seeing what our legacy and family players do with the tool. Don’t forget to share your stories on our forums.
Happy Simming!
